TEAM THOMAS

Second attempt. Following are the long-awaited details of Hospice of Michigan's annual Walk & Remember. The money raised at the walk supports Hospice of Michigan's open access policy, which allows children and adults to die with dignity, family and the best possible care regardless of ability to pay.

Date: Saturday, May 17

Time: Arrive @ 8:00 a.m.
     Walk begins @ 8:35 a.m.

Location: East Grand Rapids Middle School
  2425 Lake Dr. SE
  Grand Rapids, MI

Parking: Available at East Grand Rapids Middle School & designated streets

Distance: 5K (about 3.1 miles)

Team Name: Team Thomas (in memory of Isaiah Thomas Armstrong Voss, a great lover of Thomas the Tank Engine)

Donations: I have donation forms and tax-deductible receipts. If you'll be attending the walk and fundraising, e-mail me your name/s & address at oneredpoppy@hotmail.com and we will register and send them out immediately. If you believe you will raise $100 or more, you are eligible for a T-shirt; if you would like the shirt, please include size in the e-mail as well (s, m, l, xl).

If you will not be attending the walk but would still like to contribute, you can do so in three ways:
online at www.hom.org
send it directly to us at the address listed below
call Roxanne Kiesling of Hospice at 1.616.356.5266

BONUS: If you decide to walk with Team Thomas, you will have the chance to walk (and even possibly carry) a real live Hospice of Michigan board member, our very own Joe Voss, esquire. Don't miss this once in a lifetime (or annual) chance to see Joe walk three miles (in one day)!!

Will be sending a check but will not have the "privilege" of seeing the lawyer walk 3.1 miles. Hope the walk is a great success and you raise lots and lots of money.

Love, Aunt Billie

We are so sorry that we have a conflict with the "Walk" date - otherwise the parents of Joe Voss, esquire, would be there to support all of you and honor Isaiah! May TEAM THOMAS provide a huge engine in order to help Hospice of Michigan continue to serve those who need their services! We love you!GGV

man joe... can't catch a break can you? what everyone here must not realize is that you can't shoot 110+ without walking a substantial amount.. even if it is from the cart to the ball and back.

look forward to "strolling" 3 miles with ya

HI ALL - This is, indeed, a bitter sweet "holiday" and memories keep crowding in. I have my "Isaiah" book right beside my favorite chair and read it over to renew memories and to provide therapy for my lonesome heart. On the cover of this book, I have borrowed another favorite Kahlil Gibran quote -- "When you are sorrowful look into your heart, and you shall see that you are weeping for that which has been your delight." True, indeed! One of the pages of my book is a bit I wrote in August of last year - prompted by one of Jen's beautiful entries on this blog. It is entitled: . . . THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW. I share it with you today, you who have some of my memories and some wonderful memories all your own.

"Maybe this is just the amounbt of time a little tyke can get his hands around in a fathomable span during which anticipation can be savored fut the culmination does not seem like forever.
. . . daddy will be home
. . . the new bike should be here
. . . sophia can stay and play
. . . we can go to grandma's
. . . it will be halloween
. . . we will make cookies
. . . it will be library day

At any rate, in the drug induced stupor, it seemed a reasonable request for Isaiah to make of his mom. 'I don't want to go until the day after tomorrow.' Just let me rest a little longer - let me know that you are right here with me - let me spend this time without anxiety.

We remember that day - the trauma of the moment - how our hearts were breaking and tears, shed and unshed, could fill an ocean.

But yet, perhaps it was a peaceful time - we can see (in retrospect) that happy memories were playing on film through the mid of a boy - so capable of joy and love and exhuberant in moments of glee.

The day after tomorrow:

...when happiness is always on the agenda
...when hearts are whole, bodies are healthy
...when every day is a holiday
... when peace is real and limitless

It is time for us 'grown ups' to strive to get our hands on that time, too."

Let's all join hands and hearts tomorrow and give three cheers for the little guy who enriched our lives in unfathomable ways.

Love to you all from Grandma Jan
