weekend line

isaiah had a pretty restless night last night, and a somewhat frantic morning. he is back to being fully ventilated by the machine (whereas before he was just getting pressure support), with a healthy flow of oxygen added in. we think his struggles are a result of the fluid on his left lung, and we are continuing to supplement his meds with extra diuretics so that he can offload some of that. we're not sure if that is working yet- but it takes some time for those therapies to work. he has really been bothered when we take the vent away- which we have to do from time to time- so we're kind of stuck for now. his chest x-rays from yesterday and today do not show much difference, and i'm told that he could have stuff going on in his lungs that won't show up for a while on film.

the iv in his left arm seemed to be causing him pain, and he was swelling up around it- so it had to be removed today, and another line placed in his groin. it's not a great spot- particularly when we hoped to have him standing up in the near future- but as long as he can't tolerate meds (or food) in his stomach, it's critical that he has access. every other possible spot above his waist are not viable options- mostly because of over-use over the past 5 years.

we don't have any food running now, and not sure when we'll be giving that a go again.

that's the saturday afternoon run down from lincoln park....

Saturday in the PICU sounds pretty grusome - reason for the three of you to want to "blow that popsicle stand!! We hover just above you with outstretched arms - waiting for the "go ahead" to grab you up and put you down in a place where troubles are few, beds are your own, bath tubs are private and fussing in the kitchen is fun again! We know a place where dads go to work, kids entertain each other and the sewing machine hums out wonders and beads become jewelry at the hands of a talented creator. You know that place too - hold fast to the dream! Joey is here entertaining us - had a great swim and visited his friend with the stash of videos. We marvel at his exhuberance and dutifully wince at his usual request for hot dogs, mac and cheese, apples and ONE piece of candy for desert. Pork chops and baked potatoes just didn't fill the bill! Lots of "let's pretend" games going on for all! We love you. GGV

Joe and Jen I hope that in the near future things will turn around for Isaiah so it can relieve some pressure on all of you. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

JJJI,

Sounds like another trying few days. Anne and I continue to think and pray for you all. Things in H-town don't seem to change much these days. Cold, snow, wind, snow, cold, snow, snow, cold...you get the picture. Although your driveway remains relatively clean, mine has about 8 inches packed down into 4 inches of ice and slush. sweet. well, here's to thoughts of new year's parties, ron ray smoo, over the rhine concerts, mac legends, and dutch dancing. can't wait to have you all back in town and fully healthy soon. much much love,

pag
