saturday evening (weather report)

a cold front is on it's way through the great lakes tonight, and i think it's probably bringing lake effect snow on the other side of lake michigan, and some frigid temps on this side. i was going to go back to get some stuff and look in on the house, but decided not to navigate southwest michigan's snow belt with a limited amount of time, and not a whole lot of capacity to deal with a car accident tonight.

there are a lot of mysteries popping up about isaiah today-- and we're trying to get on board with what a possible plan might be to deal with multiple issues. it's a bit difficult to cozy up to the idea that no one here knows what happened on wednesday, and therefore there is not a coordinated effort to help him get better. we've been in this spot before- it's been a while- but we've been here. and of course, being here doesn't make it an easier place to be.

the surgeons don't know- and there's a few surgeons thinking about it. the neurologists don't know- and we're getting a good flavor for how inexact that area of medicine really is. the ICU team just keeps track of what's going on from hour to hour, and reacts to what it sees. we're reminded by familiar medical staff that we're only three days out, there has been some good news from time to time- and that critical care medicine is really like a series of difficult puzzles- some without solutions.

it seems a lot longer than 3 days out already.

Indeed it has been a very long three days - but remember how good your son is at solving puzzles! I am happy you decided not to come home - please let us know if we could check on the house and pick up things for you! You are probably too tired to make that trip by yourself anyway at this juncture. We will pray to the Holy Spirit for an infusion of wisdom for the medical team and a special dose of patience for the two of you for whom "waiting" has become a way of life lately. We love you! GGV

Dear Joe & Jen,
well - can't say much except that we know you know that we and a host of others are waiting with you and watching for updates as they come along. Needless to say we are in prayer for you and the medical team as they try to determine what is going on and what to do. There is a prayer chain at yet another parish in Evansville on board as of this morning. Please don't try to drive home - you surely are exhausted - let your Mom & Dad and all your other family and friends nearby do whatever they can as they have so generously offered. There now - do I sound like your bossy older cousin? Guess I am.
Love, Cecilia
